SMARTY: Defensive Wirespeed AI
As 5G and NextG networks evolve, real-time cyber threat detection is becoming increasingly important. The project is developing a defensive wirespeed AI approach for detecting malicious traffic directly at the 5G base station.
The solution uses a Vision Transformer (ViT) to identify known and previously unseen attack patterns. Unknown flows can be analysed and new attack classes added without retraining the entire model, allowing the system to adapt to emerging threats.
By operating directly on the gNB user-plane data path, the solution can detect threats before they reach the core network, while maintaining near real-time performance.
Overall, this work supports adaptive intrusion detection at the network edge, contributing to more secure and resilient 5G and NextG infrastructures.
