SMARTY: SWARMification approach for resilient 5G/B5G networks
The SMARTY approach for 5G/B5G mobile network workloads targets trusted and resilient environments, where network and processing nodes can operate in a self-managed manner according to available AI/ML-based capabilities.
The concept of SWARMification extends the capabilities of disaggregated Radio Access Networks, enabling dynamic adaptation of network operations through resilience mechanisms and interaction between RAN Intelligent Controllers and in-network computing resources.
The approach combines AI/ML pipelines, policy exchange, conflict management and telemetry mechanisms to support adaptive network management. Two feedback loops are considered: a big loop based on telemetry collection, AI/ML retraining and policy updates and a small loop leveraging WAI, digital twins and RIC applications to provide faster decisions, reduced energy consumption and increased resilience.
